Reiki Attunements
What
is Reiki?
The practice of Reiki is believed to come from ancient
texts rediscovered and developed by Mikao Usui in Japan
early last century. The Japanese word Reiki means 'Universal
Energy'. Eastern medicine has always recognised and worked
with this energy, which flows through all living things
and is vital to the well-being of life. The energy is
known as 'ki' in Japan, 'chi' in China, and 'prana' in
India. Acupuncture, tai chi and yoga are also based on
the free-flow of this energy in a person. As a therapy,
Reiki is an effective and simple way of tapping into this
energy, and transferring it for the benefit of the receiver,
to stimulate the body's own natural healing potential.
What are the
benefits?
Reiki is beneficial in many ways. Whether you suffer
from stress or tension, and the symptoms associated
with this, or wish to improve the quality of relationships
at home or work, the effects of Reiki occur on many
levels. Reiki can accelerate the healing of physical
problems, balance the emotions, and free us from restrictive
mental attitudes. It can also provide a closer connection
with inner wisdom.
Reiki encourages and supports positive personal change
such as improving the diet, having more rest, exercise
or leisure time, and may reduce the need for alcohol
and tobacco. Reiki can allow us to respond more calmly
to life's challenges and build on a more resourceful
state of being. Reiki is a gentle energy and may be
used safely by all ages, including the new born, pregnant
mothers, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly,
regardless of their state of health. Reiki can enhance
everyday life, Regular sessions help to ward-off illness
and fatigue.
Reiki is a non-invasive therapy that can be used without
fear of any side-effects. It may be used with confidence
alongside conventional medication or natural remedies
because it acts in a complementary way.
What is a Reiki Treatment
like?
A Reiki treatment usually lasts upward of thirty minutes.
The client lies on a treatment couch with a background
of soft relaxing music and incense. The client remains
fully clothed. The Reiki practitioner places his/her
hands gently and passively on different locations on
the body, usually beginning at the head. Each position
is held for a few minutes.
Reiki does not require any form of manipulation of tissue
or muscles so the hands remain still. Reiki will even
flow through a plaster cast.
It is common for the client to experience sensations
such as warmth or tingling flowing from the Reiki practitioner's
hands. Most clients report entering a very deep state
of relaxation. Those familiar with meditation say they
enter a deep meditative state. The mind calms, the breathing
slows down, and a feeling of well being and better sense
of perspective is attained.
By receiving a session of Reiki, one physiologically
attains many of the benefits equivalent to three to
four hours sleep, such as increased oxygen supply to
the blood and cells. This clinical observation, combined
with the meditative state, makes Reiki a most effective
natural stress reliever.
Regular use of Reiki leads to an increase in general
vitality and well being and a sense of inner peace.
It greatly accelerates and promotes the healing process
and regeneration of tissue
Safety
Reiki does not take the place of conventional medicine.
Always consult a GP for an acute or infectious condition,
and problems of urgent concern. Reiki works effectively
alongside orthodox healthcare, so expanding treatment
options
Can anyone learn Reiki?
The ability to channel Reiki cannot be learnt from a
book or by instruction. To be able to receive Reiki,
students go through a special initiation which 'attunes'
them to the Reiki energy. Over time this connection
is improved through practice, and by actually using
the Reiki energy on themselves - typical known as 'self
treatment'. Many people use it exclusively for reasons
of personal development, healthcare and stress-management.

The attunement/initiation
An initiation/attunement can only be performed by a
Reiki Master (teacher). This process harmonises a person
with the Reiki energy so they can receive and pass it
on to others. It is not exclusive, anyone can be attuned/initiated
to Reiki regardless of their spiritual or religious
beliefs. Additional stages of attunements/initiations
and the use of the Reiki symbols, further enhance the
practitioner's ability to utilise the Reiki energy,
focusing it for specific purposes.
What are the symbols?
The Reiki symbols are devices used by Reiki practitioners
who have been attuned to use them and focus their intent
for specific uses. They are an integral part of the
attunement/initiation process. The Reiki symbols are
sacred and may vary across the different styles of Reiki.

Mikeo Usui's Rules for
Healing
Mikeo Usui, the founder of Usui Reiki promoted this
simple yet profound set of rules for daily living.
Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today, do not anger.
Honour your parents, teachers and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Show gratitude to everything.
It is now been scientifically proven through research
studies that when people feel gratitude their bodies
produce healing chemicals which circulate to every cell.
Practising gratitude promotes our health and longevity.
There have been people who have cured their cancers
through daily planned experiences of laughter.
One of the most basic yet profound teachings is to focus
on being in the present moment. This means not worrying
about the future. This means not dwelling on the past
with guilt, self-recrimination, shame, sadness or anger.
Putting our focus and energy to the past or future is
a waste of energy. It detracts from being alive in the
present. NOW is really all we have! We cannot change
the past, we can only learn from experiences we had
there. We cannot know what the future will be. We can,
however, miss the present moment by spending our precious
time on the past or future.
Take time and meditate on these principles.

Reiki Attunements - The
Three Degrees (Levels) of Reiki Training
Reiki
I (morning session by appointment )
In this workshop you will:
Receive energy attunements which enable you to more
easily channel Universal Energy through your hands upon
intention.
Learn to scan the body, feel the body's general vitality
level, the energy centres (chakras), and to detect blockages
of energy.
Practice the hand positions for the treatment of self
and others.
Learn the history of Reiki.
Learn the significance of the chakras.
Having received the first attunement, the new Reiki
practitioner has been prepared to offer the basic energy
transfer.
Reiki II (4-6 hours by

At this level, the training is more intense. The practitioner
receives the Reiki symbols with the second attunement.
The practitioner is also now able to perform remote
Reiki.

of one months experience with Level I and want to learn
more advanced Reiki techniques for their own personal
development and as a Reiki Practitioner.
The Workshop consists of:
Additional Reiki attunements opening you to channel

Reiki III/Reiki Master
(individually tailored)
This course is individually tailored and involves working
through personal blocks over several months. Reiki Mastership
is an attitude and a way of life. Acceptance on this
course is by interview.
It is important for you to meditate on your life purpose
and your intent and decide if Reiki Mastership is in
harmony with it. Then, it is important to find a Reiki
Master to study with who is competent and to whom you
feel attuned; one who will support you after you become
a Reiki Master.
Becoming a Reiki Master implies that you will be able
to initiate others into Reiki. Therefore, it is important
to find a teacher who will spend time helping you practice
the attunement process
Upon receiving the third attunement, the practitioner's
knowledge and skills are expanded and intensified. The
student receives instruction on how to pass the attunements;
and guidance on how to use and transfer power and sacred
symbols as a Reiki Master/Teacher
